Mogosoaia most probably illustrates the fief of local gentry and aristocracy from Wallachia, and was first mentioned in documents as early as 1598. The name of the place derives from the name of a boyar, landlord and headman of the local Royal Court, Vornic Mogoş. Along the time, very important families of local nobility have established their residence nearby, such as Brancoveanu, later followed by Bibescu and Stirbey, each one leaving an important cultural and architectural legacy in the area, such as the late 17th century’s Bibescu Palace on the opposite shore of lake Mogosoaia, Stirbey Palace in the nearby town of Buftea and Brancoveanu’s mansion in Potlogi village.
